When you decorate a home, you are not just tidying it up, you are changing the entire character of the rooms. Sometimes it’s a case of a quick lick and promise with the paintbrush, but other rooms will need that full treatment of cabinets being replaced; carpets changed and possibly a bit of building work to make more space. It is important to plan each stage so that no time is wasted and materials are bought only when needed and not allowed to stack up idly, costing money. It helps to have a good sized back yard if any materials have to be delivered earlier. Leaving anything out the front of the property is asking for trouble. Not only is the storage of new build materials essential, the safe and legal disposal of discarded materials is also paramount. Much of the product removed from a room will have been broken away and smashed up a little – particularly sanitary ware – this is vey dangerous as jagged rough edges can slice an arm, leg or hand and although the best method for disposing of all materials is generally in a skip, there are clear rules and regulations surrounding the duty of care when keeping a skip on a driveway or roadway – the hirer is responsible for all items lodged in it, no illegl or prohibited items – and the list if very log, until it is collected and taken away by the skip operator. So it must be made as difficult as possible for unauthorised folk to get into the skip and as impossible as it can be to take anything out of it.
