Making The Decor In Keeping With The Room

If the room to be decorated is small, say a spare downstairs front room, then ensuring the main furniturre items are not too large and bulky will help in the first instance. All storage has to be really good and must serve a couple of purposes to earn it’s space. For example, does it hold everything you plan to store in that room or location; is it a nice looking piece of furniture that will blend with the suite and other major purchases? Too many living rooms are desperately cluttered once the 3 pice suite is put in or the dining table is placed with roo many chairs. Obviously if any of the items are donated with affection by a family member, then a certain amount of grace must be observed and it be accomodated. However, the line must be drawn if a hefty old brown or orange wood sideboard is dumped on the spot. If there is no room for any sideboard, then maybe a footstool with a hinged lid will help it double up as a seat and storage spot. Of course, if the property is generally small with less room upstairs, then before any 3 piece suite is purchased, think about making one item a sofa bed. This will help mmensely in years to come to supplement any shortage of beds elsewhere.

If the floor space in a room is limited, plain carpet or floor cover will make for a cleaner look. But to enhance the illusion of space, ceiling lights that catch the eye upwards will make it all much more airy. Anything that drawers the eye higher will give the impression of more space and light. The use of rugs and wall art in a corner of a room helps to designate that as a special area for say, a dining set. Small table and chair combos are very effective these days. Hanging a small selection of framed prints with a theme that matches the rug would sugest a designated and co-ordinated approach.
