My Mother has lived at Brook house Residential Home for nearly 6 years. She and I chose it together when living on her own became too worrying for her. She was then 84. We chose Brook House Care HOme for its intimate family feel, and for the many little 'niceties' that Karen Brett the manager insisted upon, and which made that extra difference to residents' wellbeing; a sherry or wine before lunch; clean table linen and napkins every mealtime; special occasions celebrated royally; a pot of tea whenever needed (I could go on and on), but most important of all, all are caring staff chosen with care.
My mother is now in much more need of that ongoing care. Earlier this year she was admitted into hospital with a severe chest infection. The medics returned her to Brook House two weeks later, infection cleared but so frail that the family didn't believe she would live the week out. Karen and her staff nursed my mum back to health through diligence and knowledge of what was needed. The family is indeed grateful.
